Welcome to J. M. Barley Photography
A gallery of rustic scenics, mostly of rural Virginia
My name is James M. Barley and I have been an outdoor enthusiast for as long as I can remember
About twenty years ago, I bought myself a basic 35mm camera and set about learning how to take good pictures.
On my days off from my regular job, I would drive to some popular scenic destination
(Usually quite a distance from home), shoot a few pictures and hurry back.
My results usually proved unsatisfactory
I have live most of my life in or near the tiny South Central Virginia community of Grit.
One day, I walked into a local craft shop operated by some transplanted Yankess,
and to my surprise, there on the walls hung photographs of local scenes which I had been seeing
(but not seeing) all my life. For me, this opened up a whole new world of photo possibilites.
These places being close by, I could easily visit them again and again until all the natural elements
came together that would allow me to produce a quality photograph.
Most of the work you see on this site was shot on professional slide film. When you order a print,
I send the slide to one of the best labs in the country to have them digitally scanned onto the finest paper
thus producing a print of the highest quality.
The print you will receive will be greatly superior to what you are looking at on this site.
For the qulity of the product, I think you will find my prices quite reasonable.
Please enjoy and may God bless you.
